African American Baby Dolls
There was once a time I thought the baby doll making craft has peaked and nothing new could come onto the market place!
Boy, was I ever wrong!
It turns out, not only do dolls resemble humans in every sense imaginable, but you now can get multicultural and ethnic dolls as well! Case in point, African American baby dolls!
Children World over are very impressionable, that’s part of the growing up process, and everything they hear and learn from their parents, they mimic. So it was a breath of fresh air to finally discover that there were real life baby dolls on the market that mirrored the ethnicity of my baby girl! Real life African American baby dolls that my girl could play and associate with!
Now, apart from purchasing life-like dolls for my baby girl, I’m also a collector of all kinds of dolls, right from my childhood days when straw-stuffed and fabric stuffed dolls (now I’m giving away my age) were the rage! Back then, a doll was just a doll, and the most popular and commercial ones were made of hard plastic, and almost all came in pink!
In this modern day and age however, you’d be hard-pressed not to find a doll of any color and, in most cases, cooing in your native tongue!

What made me fall in love with these lifelike African American Baby Dolls, Created by Master Doll Artist Waltraud Hanl, is that it is small, about 10 inches in height, looks VERY REAL, much to the delight of my baby and neighbors alike, now I cannot get my daughter’s friends to leave, because they all want to see baby Mirabelle, as they call her!
At one time someone wanted to call the cops, because they thought I had a premature baby that I had let my 3 year old daughter play with!
No kidding!
African American baby dolls – Best Design
If you’re in the market for African American Dolls or any life-like dolls for that matter, no other come close in comparison to The Ashton-Drake Collection! They simply have turned doll making into a science that you cannot stop without marveling at the wonder of it all!
This tiny vinyl baby doll has micro-rooted hair adorned with bows and delicate baby eyelashes. Ours was outfitted in a pale yellow sleeper and white cardigan. There are lots of exciting ways to pose this little charmer.
Now, a word of warning though, these African American baby dolls were initially designed for collectors, i.e you put the darling doll in a display cabinet and hope visitors will keep coming and gawking at the beauty!
However, nothing stops you from purchasing this gem for your kids. If they’re old and responsible enough to play with a 10 inch real life baby doll, then I’d say go for it.
Also, these dolls, because of their unique handiwork, do not come cheap! They’re custom made after all, and the cheapest on the market will set you back by about $100 plus!
Either way, this was a good investment, if I may call it that, for my 3 year old! Kids only have one chance to enjoy their childhood, and no matter how many times my spouse and I may try to encourage our daughter to read etc, she’s got a lifetime ahead of her, and the memories she acquires today, will determine the broader outcome of her future tomorrow!
African American Baby Dolls – UPDATE
Been a while since we’ve updated this section of our website, the issue being – quality, collectible African American Baby dolls are really hard to find!
However, being the enterprising duo that we are, we were pleasantly surprised recently when, on a cruise trip, we ran across a very special doll that was being sold onboard!
Believe it or not, this dolls is a President Barack Obama dolls!
Now, there are some who may shy away from the thought of a Presidential doll, but if history repeats itself, there are a lot of celebrities with dolls made in their image, not to mention Madame Tussaud’s candle wax effigies in London.
Anyway, without further ado, we introduce the President Barack Obama Commemorative Baby Doll – we hope your children have fun with this or, just display him somewhere, either way, he’s an historic dolls alright!
